----
The theme Reaching Up and Reaching Out is derived from Reaching Up to God then Reaching Out to persons. In Reaching Up we must seek guidance from God in witnessing and then we will be equipped to Reach Out to dying souls. As the song writer says rescue the perishing care for the dying, snatch them in pity from sin and the grave. This highlights the great importance of 'rescuing' or seeking the lost. We must also embrace the Gospel commission found in Matthew 28 to Go (Reach Out), teach and continue to teach. Many persons in the world are yet to hear about who God is hence as a church we have a great duty to accomplish in Reaching Out. Ellen White writes in the book Evangelism, 'We should make efforts to call together large congregations to hear the words of the gospel minister. And those who preach the Word of the Lord should speak the truth. They should bring their hearers, as it were, to the foot of Sinai, to listen to the words spoken by God amid scenes of awful grandeur.'
The method that we chose in reaching out is also critically important. The method that will bring the most success is Christ’s Method.
Ellen G. White outlines this method in her book, The Ministry of Healing, p. 143.
“Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, ‘Follow Me.’”
If we are serious about reaching souls for Christ. We must first minister to the social, physical and emotional needs of people. Then once we have won their confidence, lead them to Christ who will work on their hearts.
9:40 – 9:50 “It’s now time for our Roving Report. Our Field Reporter Sis./Bro. <Insert Name> is in the streets to listen to the views of you, our listeners. What’s your story today? 10:40 – 10:45 (Music plays in background- Salutations + Interlude of Music) – “You have been gracious to allow us through your airwaves this morning. Thank you. And remember, Reach Up and Reach Across!
I leave you with Jesus on the cross... Sinners just like you and I had not only made poor decisions, but they had beaten and hung him to die. They beat Him! They ridiculed Him! They tore at His Flesh and gambled for His clothes.
Have you experienced that? Can you even imagine?
What did Christ say? How did He respond?
How did our Saviour respond?
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34).
Take in those very words, each and every time you step away, turn your back, moan or groan or sigh with exasperation over someone else’s sin. Take in those very words, when you talk to others who may not live the way you do. Take in those very words, when you feel compelled to condemn or criticize others. If Jesus can offer up his murderers for God’s forgiveness, while dying on the cross, I think we can find it in our hearts to take a tiny piece of that love and grace ~ and pour it out to those who “know not what they do.”
My sisters and brothers in Christ, Take off your halo, and reach out your hand.
I will repeat for your memory Christ’s Method.
“Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, ‘Follow Me.’”
