Why don’t seventh day Adventist eat pork, shellfish, shrimp, pepper, meat and why are Seventh-day Adventist often vegan or vegetarian?
It is a common misconception that Seventh-day Adventist Christians don’t eat pepper or meat however, that couldn’t be further from the truth. There is no official mandate against eating either pepper or meat. What there is however, is a range of counsel of diet reform of which, eliminating meat and stimulants from your diet is a part of. As for pork, shellfish and other seafood, duck, shark and other creatures, there is a specific reason we don’t eat them. This is traced back to Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14. Each animal that God made was separated into two categories: clean and unclean. We follow these health laws and abstain from unclean foods.
Vegan/ Vegetarian
Not all Seventh-day Adventist are vegan/ vegetarian but the vast majority of the denomination recognize the value of eating a meat free diet. It is in line with your body being the temple of God and caring for it. Eating meat has been linked to many health concerns and it is proven that vegans/ vegetarians tend to live a longer healthier life.
